Festival Beauty Essentials
Updated: Sep 4, 2019
Here are some of my Holy Grail beauty products that have held up through years of 3 day festivals full of dancing, sweating, and being in the heat for 12 hours.
I got this in a Sephora Play box and absolutely LOVE it. It's a setting spray that has SPF 50 (protecting your skin from the sun is SO important!) but the best part is that it has a cooling effect when you spray it on. It feels so nice and refreshing, yet doesn't get greasy or oily on top of your makeup. I have the travel sized bottle that I keep in my camelbak and use at festivals where I'm in the sun.
These are my go-to eyelashes for festivals. I use the original and sometimes the mini, depending on my eyeshadow look. Either way, these are gorgeous and dramatic enough to stand out against glittery festival makeup without looking crazy. They also look great on camera.
I have fairly clear skin so I don't necessarily use this foundation to cover anything up, but I love using full coverage foundations at festivals because it looks the best on camera and in photos and it lasts the entire festival. I also tend to get pretty red/flushed when I am dancing or if I get hot, and I never have to worry about looking red when I have this foundation on. I have a bottle of this that matches my skin when I'm pale and a bottle that matches me when I fake tan and am super dark. I mix the two together, using more or less of each color, to match my tan perfectly.
I actually haven't tried this one at a festival yet, it's a new product and I only got it a few weeks ago, but I've been wearing it in the summer heat every day since. This setting powder is waterproof, so when you put it on top of your foundation, it makes that waterproof as well. I got this specifically for Tomorrowland (because of the rain) but I really love it so far. The first time I tried it, I drank some water after finishing my makeup and the water came out too fast and ran down my chin. Instead of leaving a water streak or messing up my foundation, the water completely balled up and repelled right off of my face (like when it's raining on your car window). My makeup still looked perfect!
I have tried several different eyelash glue brands, and this is my absolute favorite. It was pouring rain one of the days at Ultra 2017 and my friend's (who used Duo glue) false eyelashes fell right off as soon as it started raining. Mine stayed on the entire night, through pouring rain, and didn't come lose at all. I actually had to pull pretty hard to get them off at the end of the night when I was back in my hotel, that's how well they stayed on. I also use a drop of this on the back of rhinestone pieces, just to make sure the stay on the entire festival.
When I first started raving, I would just use glitter from a craft store and stick it to my eyelid and call it a day. Then I learned how dangerous getting glitter in your eye is, and haven't done it since (there are horror stories of women losing their eyes due to infections caused by glitter!). These are the most glittery alternatives to using actual glitter, and much more safe.
I use this under the Stila eyeshadows and to put glitter on my cheeks and body.
Usually I use a round swivel travel mirror without the lighting, and set it up in front of a window for natural light when I'm in a hotel for a festival. However, I'm going to be in a cabana at Tomorrowland that only has a door (no windows), and I don't know if I'm going to want to leave it open for everyone to see while I'm getting ready. I bought this mirror from Amazon, it uses batteries and lights up along the sides. I don't know what my situation will be with using natural light in Dreamville, so I'm glad I have this just in case I can't use natural light.
9. Self Tanner & Mitt
I don't have a link for a specific self tanner, because I am STILL trying to find my Holy Grail tanner. In the past, I've used Fake Bake, St. Tropez, Loving Tan, and Tanceuticals. Fake Bake Flawless Darker is probably my favorite out of all of those that I've tried so far. St. Tropez takes so long to dry and even after an hour I still feel sticky, Loving Tan was not nearly as dark as what I want for festivals, and I don't remember what I thought about Tanceuticals but I returned the bottle so it must not have been great. There's a few that I want to try before going to Tomorrowland, but if I don't find one I love, I'll most likely use Fake Bake.
Because really, who doesn't use this setting spray to keep their makeup lasting all day and night?
